There will be overall net prizes as well; however, the Sports Class prizes will be the primary prizes for the tournament. This is reflective of best practice internationally for the last 25 years of Paralympic sport. There isn’t an overall winner of the 100m at the Paralympics, instead athletes are judged against players of a similar ability. This is the same system we are applying to our G4D Tournaments. For 2026, Golf Ireland G4D Tournament prizes will be awarded in the EDGA Sports Classes.  There may be events where certain categories are combined, in cases of very low entries for that class.   There are 9 EDGA Sports Classes and they are: Intellectual 1: This class is for players with an intellectual impairment (Virtus II1) or Downes Syndrome (Virtus II2) Intellectual 2: Neurodivergent Autistic players are classified in here (Virtus II3) Standing 1: Players with impaired static standing balance with multiple limb impairments or severe single lower limb impairments, likely to lose balance during or after making the shot. Includes players with significant bilateral arm impairments requiring the use of long-shafted clubs. Standing 2: Players with impaired dynamic standing balance, but able to stand on two legs, with prosthetic limbs if required. Able to maintain standing balance throughout and after making the shot. Standing 3: Players with good dynamic standing balance and mobility, able to grip the club with two hands and swing without losing balance or grip. Usually walking the course using a golf cart or carrying clubs. Sitting 1: Players with impaired trunk control, lack of consistent static sitting balance and no independent standing balance. Sitting 2: Players with active trunk control, dynamic sitting balance, minimal unsupported standing balance and unable to play standing without support. Visual 1: Totally blind. Visual 2: Significant visual impairment.   HOW CAN I GET CLASSIFIED? You can get classified for a physical or sensory disability at the ISPS Handa Irish Open for Players with a Disability. You first need to register for an EDGA Pass, which you can do HERE, and then you go on the list for classification at either the ISPS Handa Irish Open for Players with a Disability or international tournaments. Golf Ireland frequently have classifiers at all domestic G4D Tournaments.
